Officers from the Catalan police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra are under investigation after a suspect in custody for a domestic violence murder managed to escape custody and committed suicide by throwing himself down a stairwell. It happened at his parents’ home in Sabadell on Sunday, where the suspect, 40 year old T.P., had fled with the couple’s two children after killing their 33 year old mother in Santa Coloma de Queralt, Tarragona, the day before. She is the sixth victim of domestic violence in Spain so far this year. Her husband had been taken to the Sabadell address in handcuffs, where police were seeking the murder weapon which had been used in the crime. He suddenly pushed the officers who were guarding him and, seconds later, jumped from the third floor into the stairwell, dying almost instantly. A judge opened the investigation into the officers involved on Monday, for the possible crime of involuntary manslaughter by omission.
