Eva Longoria and Antonio Banderas Host Starlite Charity Gala in Marbella

Friday 12 August 2011

Three of Hollywood’s superstars came out in force for the second Starlite Gala at the five star Villa Padierna Hotel in Benavís near Marbella on Saturday, in aid of charity.

The event was hosted by Antonio Banderas, his wife Melanie Griffith and actress Eva Longoria who is one of Hollywood’s most famous activists – she runs Eva’s Heroes and the Eva Longoria Fund and campaigns for fairer conditions for Mexican immigrant workers in the United States. Despite the news that her hit series Desperate Housewives had just been cancelled, and the latest series will be the last, she looked absolutely radiant.

The gala raised funds for the Niños en Algeria foundation, Eva’s Heroes, and the Eva Langoria Fund, and Lágrimas y Favores supported by Antonio Banderas. Each of these foundations tries to help children and youngsters with special needs who live in places of extreme poverty, in underprivileged families struggling to make ends meet.

Both Banderas and Griffith also support local charity Cudeca, based in Benalmadena, which raises funds for its hospice cancer care centre, and both were spotted wearing sunflowers, the symbol of the foundation.

Other stars from the Spanish celebrity world were at the event, including many from Marbella’s glittering social set, such as Gunilla Von Bismarck and Luis Ortiz, actor Octavi Pujades, Carmen Lomana and Remedios Cervantes. Actress and singer Paz Vega who is a huge star in Spain also attended.

There were more than 400 guests in total, with tickets costing between 800 and 1,000 euros.
