Eva Longoria and Antonio Banderas Host Starlite Charity Gala in Marbella

Friday 12 August 2011

Three of Hollywood’s superstars came out in force for the second Starlite Gala at the five star Villa Padierna Hotel in Benavís near Marbella on Saturday, in aid of charity.

The event was hosted by Antonio Banderas, his wife Melanie Griffith and actress Eva Longoria who is one of Hollywood’s most famous activists – she runs Eva’s Heroes and the Eva Longoria Fund and campaigns for fairer conditions for Mexican immigrant workers in the United States. Despite the news that her hit series Desperate Housewives had just been cancelled, and the latest series will be the last, she looked absolutely radiant.

The gala raised funds for the Niños en Algeria foundation, Eva’s Heroes, and the Eva Langoria Fund, and Lágrimas y Favores supported by Antonio Banderas. Each of these foundations tries to help children and youngsters with special needs who live in places of extreme poverty, in underprivileged families struggling to make ends meet.

Both Banderas and Griffith also support local charity Cudeca, based in Benalmadena, which raises funds for its hospice cancer care centre, and both were spotted wearing sunflowers, the symbol of the foundation.

Other stars from the Spanish celebrity world were at the event, including many from Marbella’s glittering social set, such as Gunilla Von Bismarck and Luis Ortiz, actor Octavi Pujades, Carmen Lomana and Remedios Cervantes. Actress and singer Paz Vega who is a huge star in Spain also attended.

There were more than 400 guests in total, with tickets costing between 800 and 1,000 euros.

POLICE IN Pilar de la Horadada have seized 22 marihuana plants and 640 grams of hashish in two separate operations that took place at the end of July.

In the first incident, a local police patrol gave chase to two men after observing them selling drugs in broad daylight in a busy street in Pilar de la Horadada’s town centre.

On spotting the police officers, one of the men fled and entered a nearby house with an open door. He was shortly found inside trying to hide the drugs underneath a bed.
The 32 year-old Maghrib native was arrested after the police seized 640 grams of prepared bags of hashish with a street value of 4,000€. The man is now awaiting trial at the Guardia Civil cells in Torre de la Horadada.

In a separate incident, police responded to a call from a local farmer who had spotted poachers on his land.
On inspection of the area, which is located close to the Lo Romero golf club, a greenhouse was discovered hidden in a riverbed area with 22 marihuana plants that ranged from 50cm to 2m high.

Within hours police had identified the person responsible for the cultivation of the illegal plants and proceeded to arrest him.
Chief of the Local Police of Pilar de la Horadada, José Antonio Hernández commented after the two arrests: “We will continue with this line of work in order to fight against this type of crime in Pilar de la Horadada.”

RAP fans were left l.i.v.i.d after paying 120 euros to see 50 Cent ‘stand in a corner’.

Hundreds of punters were furious when the US superstar failed to perform a single song during an appearance at the Funky Buddha nightclub in Puerto Banus.
Instead of a live performance by the multi-millionaire rapper, all they got was him spraying champagne from the VIP enclosure, behind a massive wall of security.
“It was completely false marketing,” a source told the Olive Press. “50 Cent was just hosting the event but this was not made apparent in the advertising.
“The way it was promoted it looked like he was performing and everyone assumed he was playing.

“The fans were rightly furious and it led to some scuffles. They paid 120 euros rather than the normal 20 believing they would see 50 Cent perform, but they got none of it.
“He came on stage for about five seconds, said that he was glad to be here and then vanished. His performance was worth about 50 cents – not 120 euros!”
Certainly the marketing left a lot to be desired. According to the club’s Facebook page the superstar was ‘coming down to the Golden Mile to kill it and show the coast how to have a massive night.’
One fan has since posted angrily on Facebook claiming: “What a scam! There was no show. I didn’t pay 100 euros to watch him spray champagne! I have put a claim in the complaints book.”
Meanwhile, new club China White, also in Puerto Banus, has been in trouble for breaking promises to clubbers.
The club – which is being pursued through the courts by internationally renowned Chinawhite for using their name – promised to have performances by rappers including Snoop Dog and Will.i.am this summer.
But so far the only rapper to perform is Flo Rida and, according to sources, the nightclub promoter Johnny ‘B’ Gomez, is no longer with them.

Ricki Lake Gets Engaged While on Vacation in Spain

There will be wedding bells in the near future for Ricki Lake. The original "Hairspray" star announced through Twitter on Thursday afternoon, August 11, that she is engaged to boyfriend of one year, Christian Evans. She wrote, "Thrilled to share some happy news with you..... I'm engaged! :)"

Along with the tweet, the 42-year-old let out a romantic photo of her and her now-fiance. She later shared her relief for being able to speak about the engagement. "The cat is out of the bag. Phew! I'm terrible at keeping secrets. :)," so she noted. In another tweet, she wrote, "Thank you so much for all the love and well wishes. :) Happy and Grateful."

Offering more details on Ricki's engagement to jewelry designer Christian was her representative Josh Sabarra. To E! News, the rep spilled, "They were in Spain on vacation and he popped the question." As for when the two are going to tie the knot, he said, "There's no plan or wedding date because it is obviously so recent."

This will be Ricki's second marriage. The former daytime talk show host was previously married to Rob Sussman for 10 years, before divorcing in 2005. From the marriage, she has two sons, 14-year-old Milo and 9-year-old Owen. Back in May this year, she revealed that she is in no rush to get married again, but added, "Never say never."
